President's Message - June, 2012

A word from the President

It’s late June and from the outside, it appears that PMI Buffalo’s program year has come to a close. Don’t be fooled; there’s a lot of activity going on over the summer, and I thought I’d let you know what we’ll be doing while you’re at the beach.

We recently held our PMI-required Annual Business Meeting, during which we presented the highlights of the last year. I won’t go into much detail except to say that the Burchfield-Penney Art Gallery was a great place to discuss all of our successes.

Some of your Board members just returned from Columbus, Ohio, where they attended a meeting of Chapter leaders from across Region 4 (the Buffalo Chapter is part of the largest region in PMI, with 24 Chapters and nearly 25,000 members). We came away with fresh ideas for the coming year (we have no problem stealing ideas from other Chapters and improving on them).

Over the summer, we'll be starting our strategic planning for 2013, starting with looking at the results of our member survey, and trying to come up with offerings that add value to your membership (I know from our Board meeting last night that your Board members are already forming interesting ideas for next year).

Operationally, there are a couple things going on over the summer. The team responsible for the Professional Development Day will be meeting regularly to ensure that that event is of the high quality that you've come to expect. Remember, the PDD is scheduled for September 20th, and will include the 10th awarding of our Project of the Year (please consider nominating a project!).

The PM4NP team just held an information session with 40 attendees, so it looks like this year's program will be as successful as those in the past.

In early August, we'll be holding another session of our basic and advanced Toolbelt classes. Check out our website for more information.

In the coming weeks, you'll be receiving an email invitation to respond to our annual member survey. Please give this your attention. The only way we know what you want is for you to tell us. We take your feedback very seriously, but can only respond if you tell us what you like and what you don't.

I think that's it for now. There are lots of things in the works, but it's a little early to discuss them. I've got to have material for next time!

If you need to reach me with an idea, suggestion, complaint, or compliment, please feel free to email me at president@pmibuffalo.org. Enjoy your summer, and stay safe.
