President's Message - March, 2017
Hello to all of our members, prospective members and followers!
Your PMI Buffalo Chapter's Board shared some fantastic some news and events this quarter and if you haven’t heard, I will take this opportunity to provide an update.
In January & February we held great dinner events and breakfast meetings. We had an opportunity learn about the project work behind putting on the Erie County Fair each year and we celebrated 2016 - an award-winning year YOU made happen!
In March, we intended to have a dinner meeting on the project work it takes to run a political campaign, however, after three committed non-partisan speakers had to back-out we reluctantly canceled our meeting. Something we do not take lightly and will not make a habit of. We were able to hold an exciting session at the University of Buffalo for ~40 graduate students and a few professors. We gained new members and a new volunteer with some exciting ideas! More on that in a future message.
As I congratulated our UB students for winning a one year membership to PMI and our local chapter, I found myself giving some advice I would share with all of you. Take a moment to recognize the value YOUR membership provides. It unlocks a treasure trove of project management content on pmi.org,pmibuffalo.org and projectmanagement.com. Webinars, white papers and research papers, templates and in person local events. If ever there was an opportunity for you to grow your knowledge and skill-set it is now! Seize it. Perhaps even more importantly is that you have access to hundreds of local professionals and hundreds of thousands of world-wide professionals. This network is strong, active, engaging and inviting. I encourage to you to network for your next job, your next mentor or your next opportunity to volunteer!
Our mission is simple - to provide a forum to promote PMI standards and to strengthen stakeholders’ knowledge, awareness and understanding of Project Management principles, tools and techniques. I hope you make our mission - you mission.
