PMI's Project Management Professional (PMP) Credential provides recognition of an individual's ability to meet specified standards in the field of project management. The certification process involves meeting minimum education/experience criteria, an examination, and a comprehensive review of the candidate's qualifications in the areas of education and professional experience. The PMP Credential Handbook defines the certification process and candidates are encouraged to obtain the brochure and become familiar with the process prior to enrolling in the review seminar.
To help you pass this examination successfully, the PMI Buffalo chapter offers PMP Exam Preparation courses. The objective of the course is to assist the candidate in preparing for the certification exam. The exam covers the knowledge areas defined in PMI's Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). The course is intended to provide a framework to prepare for the PMP certification exam and is not an introductory course in project management. Candidates should have some experience in project management prior to attending the course.
Tutorials on the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) will be provided. We will be using new material based on the 4th edition of the PMBOK. Attendees will be given course materials and sample exam questions. Homework assignments can be expected. PMP's with experience in project management teach the workshops and will help motivate you to achieve your goal. Class subjects include scope, time, risk, cost, quality, procurement, communications, human resources, integration, professional responsibility and study preparation. We'll refresh your exam-taking skills with sample test questions that help you assess your readiness for the exam. This class is structured as review of the information that students must know to pass the exam. This is not an accelerated or advanced exam prep class. Students should be prepared to devote significant time outside of class preparing for the exam.
All PMI members are entitled to an electronic copy of the PMBOK through www.pmi.org. Non-PMI members are highly encouraged to join PMI to save significantly on the registration fee. Non-PMI members are also encouraged to purchase a hard copy of the PMBOK. It is not available for purchase through the Buffalo PMI Chapter but can be found by searching for “PMBOK 4th edition” on amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, or borders.com.
The seminar consists of ten (10) evening sessions. Each session lasts from 5:45 PM to 9:15 PM. Registration is not confirmed until payment has been received in full. The first 30 people to pay in full for each session will be confirmed for that class. Cost ranges from $575 - $750 depending on your affiliation with the PMI Buffalo Chapter. Please feel free to view the next scheduled sessions.
