Project of the Year 2019
Congratulations to the following organizations for winning the 2019 Project of the Year Award!
CorporateProfessional Category: M&T Bank (who has donated their cash prize to Buffalo Promise Neighborhood)
M&T Bank provided an exciting project this year, the Credit Lifecycle Management program, which is actually a series of highly interdependent projects modernizing and simplifying the Bank's Commercial and Business Banking lending technology, process, data, and operating model. To date, this is the largest transformation project M&T has undergone, and the Bank's Enterprise Transformation Office, which tackled it, dlivered on time, on budget, and to scope, as evidenced by a 10% cost and schedule variance.
Student/Emerging Leader Category: SewREDI Buffalo
SewREDI, an all-volunteer Refugee Refugee Economic Development initiative in Buffalo, NY, uses sewing to impart economic empowerment strategies to members of Buffalo's refugee community...who create, and profit from 100%, the wares they create through SewREDI. The non-profit submitted a project which was exclusively run by student volunteers from Canisius College: the project "Meet the Makers" allows the public to get to know the makers of these wares, showcasing 10-20 of the most active refugee makers and telling their stories on the Sew REDI website.
Community/Non-Profit Category: The Wakanda Alliance
Are you a fan of comics? So are the project managers at the Wakanda Alliance, which focuses on the Marvel-based Black Panther comic Black Panther, and the substantial African lore which it draws from. Their project, an exciting and accessible workshop which they bring to schools and other places where young people gather, bring education through invigorating sessions, mixing the reading of these comics with comprehensive discussions on the rich and ancient origins of much of their content, and the complexities (societal roles, economic class structures, and more) that drive the action within.
Update: Applications for the 2019 Project of the Year are now closed. Stay tuned for next year's cycle which will open in the latter part of 2020!
With its prestigious Project of the Year Awards (POTY), PMI Buffalo has been honoring the best projects in the Buffalo-Niagara region for 15 years! From 2003 to 2017, PMI Buffalo had presented its Project of the Year Awards to one outstanding project a year. The Past Winners winners were outstanding examples of project management principles at work—overcoming obstacles, logging hours of effort, coming together as a team in a striving towards excellence. What sometimes seems impossible is finally achieved. But context matters, scale differs, and it was not easy to narrow projects from a wide variety of fields down to one winner over all. In 2018, we expanded the awards to 3 categories to be inclusive of the diverse array of community projects in the WNY region.
This year, we are proud to announce that we are dedicating this year season to PMI Global as it marks its 50th Anniversary, and honoring its theme for this exciting milestone: Sustainable Development Goals!
Have a project that your worked on over the past year that stands out? Get it the recognition it deserves by nominating it for the the following categories:
