The Buffalo Sewers - History and Current Management

Buffalo Sewers:  History, Project management, and Supply Chain

Since the 1840s, Buffalo has continually worked to protect the environment and human health from the effects of sewage.  Over this time, the technologies used to achieve this goal have evolved as have the parameters used to define what protection means.   But pipes which were laid in the 1840s continue to be used.  As the Buffalo Sewer Authority implements its $380 million combined sewer overflow long term control plan while continuing to manage this existing system, this historical infrastructure offers both challenges and opportunities.

Speaker Bio: Rosaleen B. Nogle, PE, PMP, BCEE is an Assistant Principal Engineer for Buffalo Sewer and ordained Deacon within the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York.  She has earned a B.A. in Anthropology, B.S. in Civil Engineering, and M.S. in Civil Engineering from UB, a M.A. in Pastoral Ministry and M. Div. from Christ the King Seminary, and a M.P.A. from Indiana University.  Rosaleen is a licensed professional engineer in seven states and a New York State certified Grade 4 collection system operator with over 12 years of experience in the water/wastewater industry.  She currently manages capital projects within both the City of Buffalo sewer system and the Bird Island Treatment Facility, serves as the stormwater manager officer, and leads several sustainability initiatives.
